Indicating "Frenemies"
As part of the celebrations for the 70th anniversary of the death of Tazio Nuvolari (1953/2023), the Automobile Club Mantova and GlobalMedia, multimedia partner of the Tazio Nuvolari Museum, are promoting NIVOLA FOREVER around the world.
In 1924 T. Nuvolari and E. Ferrari met at a race and Ferrari declared: "I hadn't given too much credit to that skinny guy, but during the race I realized that he was the only competitor capable of threatening my win". Six years later, in 1930, he was hired as a driver for the newly formed Scuderia Ferrari. Nuvolari raced for the Scuderia from 1930 to 1948. driving 12 cars: 10 Alfa Romeos from 1930 to 1933 and 1935 to 1937 and 2 Ferraris in 1947 and 1948. He won 40 races: 37 out of 60 Alfa Romeos and 3 out of 6 Ferraris. Out of a total of 66 races, he stood on the podium 48 times. Both fussy and gifted with a very strong character, Nuvolari and Ferrari experienced a very difficult relationship which led them, in July 1933, to an inevitable divorce. The drivers Jano and Canestrini, who in the Alfa Romeo team were Nuvolari's staunchest supporters, worked to ensure that the Mantuan returned to racing for the Scuderia. And Ferrari, albeit reluctantly, reconfirmed him in 1935, which proved to be the year of Nuvolari's most beautiful winnings with Alfa Romeos. Enzo Ferrari elected him "Nobody like Tazio Nuvolari...".
In those years, Scuderia Ferrari achieved impossible goals that marked the beginning of a story that is still synonymous with prestige today and where every driver dreams of being able to enter: - National: in addition to dozens of races, he won the X Italian Grand Prix and conquered the Mille Miglia in 1933, which was the first for the "Scuderia Ferrari"; he was Absolute Italian Champion Class 5000 in 1932, 1935 and 1936. -International: in 1932, he won the International Motoring Championship, later Formula 1; he also won at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, at the II Grand Prix in Pau and at the Tourist Trophy; in 1935 he conquered the so-called "Impossible Victory": in the German Grand Prix, held on the Nürburgring track, the Mantuan managed to win aboard an Alfa Romeo P3, whose engine was over 100 horsepower less powerful than that of the Mercedes and Auto Unions; in 1936 Nuvolari and Scuderia Ferrari landed in the USA and triumphed in the prestigious Vanderbilt Cup in New York.
To support the exhibited images, to deepen and relive the emotions of the time, a postcard will be distributed free of charge, which, through a QR-code, will allow access to the Museum's Digital Bank, displaying interactive contents: multilingual guide, race cards, videos/photos, 3D and Augmented Reality car models. Furthermore, it will be possible to take personalized selfies as a souvenir and leave a comment, as an indelible sign of one's testimony in the virtual diary, which will be kept in the Tazio Nuvolari Museum, together with all the others collected around the world.
“Nivola”, everyone knew him and everyone feared him; abroad he was known as the Master, and in his career from 1920 to 1950 he conquered, running 312 races, 141 winnings on over 200 podiums, as Italian and International champion and speed record.
